This is a modest success by industry standard, but it did at least make back Artisan Entertainment’s $12,000,000 investment.Ĭritics weren’t entirely misguided when they compared Stir of Echoes to the overwhelming box office phenomenon known as The Sixth Sense. In fact, only Stigmata took in more money ($89,530,275) than Stir of Echoes ($23,059,379). If most of these titles don’t seem familiar to you, this is probably due to the fact that none of them were particularly successful. This may very well have something to do with other fairly forgettable films that were released that day - including Stigmata, Love Stinks, The Minus Man, Best Laid Plans, Earth, Hello Brother, Whiteboyz, B. However, it was one of the more popular films at theaters when it hit screens on Friday, September 10, 1999. The film has a loyal cult following, but it received a decidedly mixed reaction from critics in the wake of an oversaturated supernatural thriller market. It soon becomes evident that these “visions” are glimpses of an unsolved crime that needs to be put right. He begins to see unexplainable things that only grow more horrific as the film progresses.
